Complaint
Response Unit / Parent Resource Network The
Los Angeles Unified School District established the Complaint Response
Unit (CRU) Parent Resource Network (PRN) to join the Division of
Special Education to respond to concerns of parents of students
with disabilities. PRN services may be accessed by calling (800)
933-8133 or by visiting the unit at the administrative
offices of the Los Angeles Unified School District, located at 333
South Beaudry, 17th Floor, Los Angeles, California 90017.
The unit is responsible for accurately recording all parent inquiries
and complaints that they receive by telephone
or in writing. The District will provide parents with a written
response that satisfies the District's legal obligations and may
be one of the following:
(1) a remedy and, where appropriate, the date by which the remedy
shall be implemented;
(2) information that an appropriate referral has been made
(3) suggested action the complaint may wish to take; or
(4) a determination that the complaint has been investigated and
determined to be unfounded.
In addition the unit must provide accurate information and record
all school responses to specific parent inquiries.
The
PRN is staffed by parents of students with disabilities that have
been trained in responding to parents concerns and serve as a liaison
to district staff regarding parent complaints. If you need further

The District will provide lawful responses
to parents filing complaints. The Complaint Response Unit shall
accurately record all parent inquiries and complaints. In addition,
it will also record its responses and shall provide complete and
accurate information to parents who contact it.
- Complaint
means the allegation of a perceived violation of the (1) Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act and implementing regulations;
(2) California State Education Code related to special education
and implementing regulations; or (3) District's Special Education
Compliance Guide.
- Lawful response
means that a parent is provided with a written response that satisfies
the District's legal obligations and may be one of the following:
(1) a remedy and, where appropriate, the date by which the remedy
shall be implemented; (2) information that an appropriate referral
has been made; (3) suggested action the complainant may wish to
take; or (4) a determination that the complaint has been investigated
and determined to be unfounded.
Resources
Parent and Community Support
A state-mandated committee that provides information, training and
support for parents of students with disabilities. Offering workshops
and presentations at local school sites and at Local District events,
our goal is to prepare parents to become effective partners in developing
education plans for their children.
Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
The Community Advisory Committee. mandated by the state of California.
is composed of parents. professionals and community members, who
act to support students with disabilities.
Special Education Multiculural Advisory
Committee (SEMAC)
A parent advisory committee sponsored by the Division of Special
Education for parents of students with disabilities and others.
SEMAC sponsors monthly informational and training meetings related
to subjects of interest to parents. All parents and community members
are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in the meetings.
