"EFFECTIVE INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION PROGRAM (IEP) MEETINGS" WEB-BASED TRAINING AND DELIVERY OF REUSABLE IEP CHARTS

LAUSD > Special Education > Professional Development > Effective IEP Meetings

Date: July 1, 2005

Due Date: October 30, 2005

Purpose: The "Effective Individualized Education Program (IEP) Meetings" training module located on the Division of Special Education website was developed to assist IEP Teams in conducting effective IEP meetings. The purpose of this Reference Guide is to inform Principals that all school staff members who will participate on IEP teams are required to view the training module. Certification of completion of the training module is required.

Part of conducting effective IEP meetings is keeping team members focused on a structured process. This can be facilitated by use of IEP meeting charts. One to four sets of reusable IEP charts referenced in the training are being distributed to schools. The charts are scheduled for delivery to year-round schools during July 2005 and to single track schools during August 2005.

Instructions: Staff members who will participate on IEP teams can access the "Effective Individualized Education Program (IEP) Meetings" beginning July 1, 2005.

You must be using a computer with a current copy of Internet Explorer or Safari (for Macs) as the browser. After clicking the link on a computer inside the LAUSD firewall (at a school site), a log-in dialog should appear. Enter the word train (without quotes) as the account name. Leave the password blank. This should take you to a screen in which you can enter a location code. After entering the code, click the Go button. This should give you a screen that will allow you to enter and submit your name. If you viewed the presentation with a small group, enter and submit all the names. If you viewed the presentation as a staff development activity with an agenda and sign-in sheet, your principal or supervisor already has evidence that you viewed the presentation, and you do not need to certify the training on-line unless your principal or supervisor requires it. After submitting the names. click Certify. Print the page that indicates certification is complete, then close the browser.

* Technical considerations: The training is made available as a PowerPoint Show (.pps) with embedded sound files for each slide. Under normal circumstances, this multi-media presentation will play on a windows computer using Microsoft's Internet Explorer. In the event that the presentation fails, it is readily available for downloading to the local desktop. This version, however, will not have sound. To download a compressed presentation with sound, from within the LAUSD firewall, click here. You will need to unzip the file using a program such as WinZip.

After all appropriate staff have viewed the training, the Principal will certify completion of the training module by: logging on to the Division of Special Education website Viewing of the training module and certification must be completed by October 30, 2005.

One to four sets of IEP poster-size reusable charts are being distributed to schools. Each set contains six charts. Strategies for using the IEP charts are provided in the website training. Only erasable markers such as "dry erase" or "grease markers" should be used on the charts. Regular, permanent, or combination markers should not be used as they are not erasable and may damage the charts.
